Opening with Hector Berlioz's Roman Carnival Overture, Op. 9, the performance sets an exuberant tone, capturing the festive spirit of Italy. Felix Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 4 in A major, Italian, Op. 90, follows, evoking sunny landscapes and lively traditions through its radiant melodies and energetic dances like the saltarello. Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto No. 1, Op. 99, adds a lyrical touch, showcasing the guitar’s expressive capabilities in a Mediterranean-inspired setting. The program concludes with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol, Op. 34, a dazzling orchestral showpiece that celebrates Spanish folk themes with vivid colors and rhythmic flair.
